Changes for Fall 2012

I hope you are having a great Summer!  The library is undergoing some changes that will take place soon!  For now you can come to me with your questions but starting with the Fall Semester the Chemistry and Physics Departments will have a new library liaison!  Her name is Hilary Robbeloth.  She is our meta-data librarian in Technical Services and she knows alot about science!!  We are giving her the summer to learn about the Chemistry and Physics Departments so that she can assist you in the Fall.  I hope to introduce her to your departmental liaisons before the beginning of Fall Semester.  As always, if you need assistance with Science Research or library resources you can contact me at Ex. 1519 or email me at cjordan@unf.edu

There are Libguides for Biology, Chemistry and Physics.  These are resource guides the library liaisons create to assist you and your students with research.  Here are the links for these guides:
For Biology: http://libguides.unf.edu/content.php?pid=240490&search_terms=Biology
For Chemistry:  http://libguides.unf.edu/content.php?pid=278231&search_terms=Chemistry
For Physics:  http://libguides.unf.edu/content.php?pid=283794&search_terms=Physics
Please feel free to email with additions or suggestions to these guides!

How many of you are using OneSearch?  It is our discovery tool that helps you find journal articles, newspaper articles, e-books, government documents, UNF library resources and more!  It is a valuable research tool on UNF library page.  I can show your new faculty and students how to utilize OneSearch to find the academic resources they need.  Again just call me at Ex. 1519 or email me at cjordan@unf.edu.

Three long-time librarians will be retiring before the end of this summer.  They are Barbara Tuck, Eileen Brady, and Verna Urbanski.  If you have enjoyed their assistance and want to thank them for their help do it before mid-July.  That is when Barbara will say "goodbye" followed shortly by Eileen and Verna.

I will continue being the library liaison for the Biology Department and will add the Music Department to my liaison duties in the Fall. Thanks to all of you for your suggestions and additions to the library collection!   Have a safe and fun summer!  CJ Jordan

Library Launches New Web Site
The library's new collection of Web pages features all searching on the main page, with links to over 250 research databases, thousands of online journals and books. Special Collections and University Archives Web pages showcase the library's and university's extensive holdings.

UNF Digital Commons

UNF Digital Commons is a service of the Thomas G. Carpenter Library. It is a digital representation of the research, scholarly output, and special collections of the University of North Florida community. Please check this website for more information:

I can arrange time to show you our new Web Site and its features. Please contact me at c.jordan@unf.edu if you would like me to hold a short instruction session for your faculty.

Also, I am once again offering to show your new faculty our library resources! I will be in my office all this week and next week from Monday - Wednesday (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.). I can also come to your office to demonstrate our resources. Please let me know if you are interested in this. My phone extension is 1519.

SciFinder Scholar

We now have SciFinder Scholar. It’s on the A to Z list and several of the science database pages.

This one is like NetLibrary and RefWorks. You have to create a username and password. See the note beside it on the library database pages.

The Carpenter Library is paying the entire cost for the database this year!

Enjoy!!

Welcome Back!!

Welcome back to all faculty in the Biology, Chemistry, and Physics Departments! I am your library liaison contact. Now that we are past the first complete week of classes I have time to update you on happenings in the Library concerning your areas. This is a new communication tool for us both so feel free to comment about what you would like to see here. I will be checking and adding to the blog on a regular basis. If you have any items you would like to see added to our collection please let me know. I work in conjunction with the Library's Collection Development Committee to provide resources for your area. Updates will be divided by Departments so that you do not have to read an entire post if it does not pertain to your area. Feel free to share this with other faculty and instructors in your area. You may also contact me by my email address cjordan@unf.edu. I look forward to an exciting Spring at UNF! Cynthia J. "CJ" Jordan
